Does a weekend full of wine tasting, picnicking and scenic drives sound like your kind of getaway? May is Aussie Wine Month, so make it a reality! From choosing the right glass to understanding the essence and history of your favourite drop, wine really is more about the experience than the average drink. To the delight of wine connoisseurs and appreciators alike, there are more than 170 wineries dotted throughout QLD that cover approximately 1,500 hectares of rich, fertile soil. From the Scenic Rim to Darling Downs and the Gold Coast Hinterland, here are some of the state’s best vineyards to mark on your map (remember to nominate a designated driver!).

Darling Downs
If you really want to get away from the hustle and bustle of town or city life, pack your car and head up into the winding hills of Darling Downs. Here you will find many boutique wineries that each have their own speciality. Far from the reach of daily city commuters, you will want to make a full day of visiting this beautiful and scenic region.
Holland Wines
Located less than 40 minutes from the lush, fertile slopes of Toowoomba in the Great Dividing Range, Holland Wines offers spectacular views best coupled with a glass of their delicious wine. Not only will you be able to sample a selection of wines at the cellar door (including Shiraz, Chardonnay, rose, sweet white, Moscato and port), but you will also discover remarkable landscaped gardens brimming with wildlife. Spot peacocks, king parrots, geese, wildflowers and much more!
Open: Most days, 9:00am to 4:00pm (we recommend calling ahead to avoid disappointment)

Sunshine Coast
The warm climate of the Sunshine Coast creates ideal growing conditions for premium-quality wines. There are many vineyards on the Sunshine Coast, so you will have plenty to choose from when it comes to organising your tour!
Flame Hill Vineyard
For full-bodied, estate-grown wine, you simply cannot go past Flame Hill Vineyard located just 2.2km from Montville. Here you will find all of your favourites, from Pinot Gris and Sauvignon Blanc to Razorback red and Shiraz. Enjoy 3 complimentary wine tastings at the cellar door, and then purchase your favourite to take home! Even better – try up to 8 wines including reds, whites and fortified wines for just $6.
Open: 7 days, 10:30am to 5:30pm

Gold Coast
With cool mountain climates and mild valley temperatures, the Gold Coast has become a booming wine region. In fact, it’s one of the fastest-growing wine regions in the state, with Verdelho, Chambourcin, Semillon, Merlot, Shiraz and more on offer.
O’Reilly’s Canungra Valley Vineyards
Hidden in the picturesque Canungra Valley is the famous O’Reilly’s vineyard. It is a boutique winery with a gorgeous historic homestead dedicated to fine wine and delicious food. O’Reilly’s offers a huge range of wine styles to suit every taste and palate. The cellar door showcases all their wines, including their premium Generations range. Each tasting is designed to lead you through the selected wine and explain which foods complement your wine, as well as allowing you to experience their special aroma kit. Wine tasting costs just $3 and is complimentary when dining or purchasing wine.
Open: 7 days, 10:00am to 4:30pm
