A successful wine-growing region since the 1820s, the Hunter Valley has produced (and continues to produce) some of the finest wine in the state. Rich, fertile soils and a warm, humid climate make the Hunter Valley ideal for thriving vineyards. This region not only boasts gorgeous wineries; you’ll also find cooking and wine schools, food and wine events, farmers’ markets and restaurants aplenty.
Tyrrell’s Wines
Australian owned since 1858, Tyrrell’s Wines is home to some of Australia’s most iconic and award-winning wines including the Vat 1 Semillon. Visit the cellar door and you will be mesmerised by the exquisite wines available for tasting.
Open: Monday to Saturday, 9:00am to 5:00pm; Sunday, 10:00am to 4:00pm

McGuigan Wines
As one of the most awarded wineries in the world, McGuigan Wines is a vineyard you certainly won’t want to miss. As the producer of Australia’s number 1 best-selling red wine by volume several years in a row, you’ll be loving the wine as much as the beautiful scenery! Hosting plenty of events and promotions, there is never a dull moment here (unless that is what you want!). Tours depart daily at 12 noon.

Southern Highlands
If you love driving through the beauty of the New South Wales hinterland, you will love the drive from the Hunter Valley down to the Southern Highlands. This area is home to much younger vineyards (the first established in 1983), many of which specialise in exquisite Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris. The region is also known for producing Shiraz, Sauvignon Blanc and award-winning sparkling wines.

Situated on 83 stunning acres of lush green grass and manicured lawns, Southern Highlands Wines certainly will not disappoint the senses. You’ll find wine from this vineyard has its own distinctive character, so you are sure to enjoy every drop. Just imagine relaxing, drink in hand, against the picturesque backdrop of the Southern Highlands—perfect for special events or just for a day out.

Next, wind your way down to the beautiful coastal region of Shoalhaven, less than 90 minutes’ drive from the Southern Highlands. Farmers’ markets, mouth-watering cuisine and breathtaking scenery are what you will discover in this beautiful pocket of New South Wales—where the rolling green hills meet the crashing ocean waves. This region is known for its cooler-climate wines that are crisp and rich in taste.
Mountain Ridge Wines
Perched atop a ridge 8km east of Berry is Mountain Ridge Wines. Offering majestic views that stretch out across Berry, Coolangatta, Saddleback and the Camberwarra Mountains, this is the perfect place to end your New South Wales wine tour. While the vineyard is in its infancy (first planted in 2007), what it lacks in history it makes up for in delicious wine and even better views.
